Lithuania was one of the first in Europe to implement a whistleblower protection mechanism in 2019. In 2021, the Law was further amended to incorporate the EU 2019/1937 Directive. Five years after the transposition of the Directive, an assessment showed that the Law is essentially in line with EU Directive 2019/1937. The Act applies to both the public and private sectors, covers both current and former employees, persons in an employment or contractual relationship, a wide range of types of violations, and the most important measures for protection, promotion, and assistance.
